I first met Sven von Büren , aka Sonic a bit more than a year ago in France and then later in Bern. I was instantly taken by his persona when i made his acquaintance, only later did learn about his work, which I then recognised instantly from external street art related publications; as it is thoroughly defined by a very unique, persistent and futuristic way of rendering on canvas, concrete and other media that serve as surface for his outstanding  images.

Sven von Büren’s work is established :If you know your way around Swiss and European Aerosol art,: Yes, I have seen his work before, however, this time around I had a chance to witness the creation of one of his murals, and let me put it this way: it was in the most vertical and stunning of ways.

And this event proved to be the occasion for a very special encounter between Sonic and I. As a street photographer I require to cover all aspects of my work by talking to the artists and poets I have in front of my lens. I have an innate urge to enquire , …what drives them, what makes  them tick….the foundations and triggers, the stimuli that makes them create their crafted pieces. An exchange of thoughts that happens without prescription and is rather dynamic in its nature. Sonic explained the work he was planning … a huge sword combination of style writing ,… a meteoric mural placed in vertical fashion on one the most dominating pieces of architecture on the Kettenreaktion 2016 Art Campus. And meteoric it is.

This dialogue between the two of us was suddenly a bit tricky, not in terms of essential understanding, but rather due to logistics, as Sonic was working in a cherry picker 30 feet above my inquisitive mind.

l1350581I decided to take it on. Make sense of the story Sonic told me , juxtaposed against my knowledge of the Kettenreaktion Story, and Sonics sword was given a well established place in this history of Attisholz. I have the deep feeling his sword has always been there since the inauguration of the factory. Sven told me thats “ this is the sword, which was used to cut down all the trees neededf in production „, an ueber- weapon,  and it goes far beyond the reach of human kind…

Truly spoken.

Sonic’s piece is not just a testimonial  to the things that have been taken place here over decades past . …it reminds me of skeletons, the future, of weapons and tools that have conformed to technology and art at the same time. Contraptions to forge visions, decide battles, and hint to a future which we are crafting as we stand here, irreversably damaging our surroundings and nature. It is a monument.

We are thrilled to witness his other contributions. In the Graphity Hall of Kings on Attistholz, alongside Dest Jones, Cemnoz, Seyo and other reknown artists…Sonic is currently working in a clolaborative mural alongside aforementioned artist, and I am thrilled to release this work in due time.
